With over 20 years of experience in treating and rehabilitation sports injuries, you’re in expert hands with us when it comes to sports injuries.

Through working with Highfield Rugby Club as head physiotherapists, U.C.C. Rugby (Division 1 A.I.L.; 19 years as head physiotherapist), Presentation Brothers College Rugby team, Golf Ireland, Munster Golf Academy, numerous men’s and women’s GAA teams and running clubs, we boast a wealth of experience in dealing with sports injuries.

Our physiotherapists are skilled at assessing and diagnosing injuries and determining the cause of the injury. Once a diagnosis is made, a plan is put in place to resolve the cause of the injury and create a specific, tailored rehabilitation programme for recovery.

Rehabilitation programmes incorporate hands-on treatment for the injury, stretching, strength and conditioning programmes; a tailored return back into your favourite sporting activity.

Sports Injuries — Common Questions

Whether you’re a weekend warrior or a seasoned club player, getting the right treatment quickly makes all the difference. Here are answers to the questions we hear most at Kanturk Physiotherapy.

What sports injuries do you treat most?

We treat a wide range of sports injuries here at Kanturk Physiotherapy. The most common ones we see include:

Hamstring Tears
ACL Injuries
Ankle Sprains
Quadriceps Tears
Groin Tears
Foot Injuries

No matter the injury, our team will carry out a thorough assessment, identify the root cause, and build a rehabilitation programme tailored specifically to you and your sport.

How soon after an injury should I come in?

We recommend coming in within 3–5 days of your injury. Early assessment helps us accurately diagnose the issue, manage pain and swelling, and set you on the fastest route to recovery. The sooner we can guide your rehab, the better your outcome.

When is it safe to return to sport?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — returning to sport safely depends on the type and severity of your injury. At Kanturk Physiotherapy, we use an evidence-based Return to Play Protocol to progressively build your strength, mobility and confidence before clearing you to compete or train fully. Rushing back too soon risks re-injury, so we’ll make sure you’re genuinely ready.

Do I need a GP referral before booking?

No — you do not need a GP referral to see us. You can book directly with our team at any time. If we feel further investigation such as imaging is required, we will advise you accordingly during your assessment.

Do you work with GAA players specifically?

We treat athletes and active individuals from all sports and all levels — not just GAA. Whether your injury happened on the pitch, the court, the running track, or in the gym, our physiotherapists have the experience to assess and rehabilitate you effectively. We treat both sport-related and non-sport-related injuries with equal care and expertise.
