All of our Chartered Physiotherapists specialise in the rehabilitation of patients, following surgery, using the specific rehabilitation protocols provided by each surgeon and tailored to the individual.

This process commences soon after surgery with advice, pain management and swelling reduction. Restoration of full range of motion and strength training commences soon after. We are there to guide you all the way through your recovery and back to your consultant, to keep the lines of communication between patient, physiotherapist and consultant open.

Pre & Post-Operative Rehabilitation — Common Questions

Whether you’re preparing for an upcoming procedure or recovering from surgery, physiotherapy plays a vital role in getting you the best possible outcome. Here are the questions we’re most commonly asked.

When should I start physiotherapy before surgery?

We recommend starting pre-operative physiotherapy 7–10 days before your surgery where possible. This “prehab” phase helps strengthen the surrounding muscles, improve range of movement, and mentally prepare you for the recovery process — all of which contributes to a faster and smoother rehabilitation post-op.

How soon after surgery can I begin rehabilitation?

In most cases, post-operative rehab can begin as early as 2–3 days after surgery. Early intervention is key — it helps manage pain and swelling, prevents stiffness, and begins the process of restoring strength and function. Your physiotherapist will liaise with your surgical team to ensure the rehab programme is appropriate for your specific procedure and recovery stage.

What surgeries do you most commonly help with?

Our team regularly works with patients recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures, including:

Knee Replacement
Hip Replacement
ACL Reconstruction
Shoulder Surgery
Back Surgery
Ankle Reconstruction

If your surgery isn’t listed above, get in touch — we’re experienced across a broad range of orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures.

Will my health insurance cover post-operative physiotherapy?

If you hold a full health insurance policy, post-operative physiotherapy is generally covered — but the level of cover can vary depending on your plan. We’d recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm the specifics of your cover before beginning treatment. Our reception team are also happy to help with any queries around this.
